Sprint HTC Hero to receive Android 2.0 update in “1H 2010”

Sprint HTC HeroThe big question that all HTC Hero owners worldwide are asking themselves is when can they expect to see the Android 2.0 (Eclair) update. As all HTC Hero phones are on Android 1.5 (Cupcake), the jump to Eclair is a big one and is much anticipated. We now have an idea of what to expect as Sprint has confirmed that it will release some time in 1H 2010. Here’s the tweet in full:

“Happy to announce Android 2.0 is coming to Sprint’s Hero & Moment. Date TBD, but roughly 1H 2010. “

On the positive side, it’s nice to have a firm indication as to when the update will hit, but on the negative side, the “1H 2010” timeline suggests it won’t be released during the first quarter of next year. However, Sprint may just be allowing itself some wriggle room with the launch date and hence the vague date.

Let’s be clear though, we are likely to see HTC releasing the Android 2.0/2.1 update at some time before this. Once released, carriers who have branded the phone (like Sprint in the US and T-Mobile & Orange in the UK) will take additional time to release their version of the update. So all those of you with unbranded GSM HTC Hero’s fear not, you’ll probably get the update significantly sooner.

WOOO!
Knowing the sort of time it will be coming is almost like an early Christmas present..

Just hope Orange doesn’t stuff it full of rubbish like they do to the Nokia Firmware upgrades.

Im guessing OTA will be trickle introduced as well? so that their servers dont struggle?
Could be a while until I get it in deepest darkest Wales… =(

This is a sad message to the users who want to buy one. Like me. At same time new HTC-Google phone will come at 2010 January.

i really hope that HTC will provide their 2.1 update for nonbranded devices soon. i have a motorola milestone as a testdevice around, and after a while its really hard to go back to android 1.5!

This is sad bcuz if you want ta mod ur phone on ur own you can already get 2.0 so they should just hurry up and give us the update.

And I think the 2.1 update was already givin out ta all the carriers that have Android phones or there about 2 in the next few days and it will be up 2 whoever u have a plan with 2 give you ur update (or NOT) or like I said you can go online and mod ur phone and you can get the 2.1 update if you want.

And iv seen other blogs with ppl saying they don’t want 2 give us the update bcuz it will over run the phone servers or sum BS but even if that was true or possible then they could just have you download it online on your comp and then transfer to ur phone like you would do with a custom mod.
