HTC's new Sense UIThe latest HTC Sense UI has been spotted from a leaked HTC Espresso ROM that was running on the HTC Hero handset. We’ve touched on the HTC Espresso before; rumours point to it being a QWERTY version of the HTC Hero. The new Sense overlay has translucent squares holding the app icons, you also now have a direct link to People (contacts),

Whether this new user interface will end up shipping on HTC Hero handsets with the Android 2.1 upgrade is unknown at this point. HTC may only be making exclusive to its new handsets (like the HTC Espresso). Certainly looks like an intriguing update, check out some larger screenshots after the break.

personally think the whole bubble effect is a bit much. but if it runs smooth and what not i can certainly live with it.

I really don’t like that icon squares , especially on the desktop icons.

Hmm…i dont like the iPhone like edges around the icons at all. Also i was hoping to see a more functional lockscreen too. Similar to the Standard Android lockscreen were you can directly toggle mute mode.

I hope the 2.1 update for my hero doesnt look Like this.

Oh man, I biught the hero in the gorgeousness of sense but I really don’t like this, looks like a Chinese knock off of the iphone UI.

Really hope this doesn’t reach my handset.

I really hope those “boxes/bubbles” around the icons can be turned off. They offer nothing to the UI but clutter (and somewhat of an iPhone look/feel).

I will also miss the elegant arc of the lock screen bar:(

I don’t get it, why add the glass effect to the icons, I don’t like that at all.

If this is what the new update will look like and those icon edges can not be turned off I won’t be updating…
Simple as that…
Or I will update, and just disable the sense UI… looks like Android may have REALLY screwed themselves here…

Ouch!, ugly bubbled icons!. I’d like to upgrade to android 2.1 but I definitely don’t want a UI like this.

Please make it an option to remove the square around the icons…. :D

Don’t you just love designers. “Well… I have to design SOMETHING! Oh wait, let’s add squares around the icons.”

16 JROD December 24, 2009 at 11:57 PM

I like the squares. it gives the icons a sort of defined area. it could be worse. you could be forced to deal with squared off edges and corners.

17 the english kid January 13, 2010 at 2:18 PM

But why round off the corners at all? If the icons were all forced to be one size like the iphone then yeah ok, I get it. But Android icons aren’t.

Are they saying we won’t be able to work out where to click without them? What possible feedback could have led to the need for this?

Man the bubbles look awful.. and I hope we get the update by February at least all this waiting is killing me
