HTC says sorry for Éclair delay

by Hero on April 26, 2010

in Firmware

Android ApologyFollowing on from the two-month delay to the Android 2.1 (Éclair) update on the HTC Hero, HTC has finally issued an apology to its Hero customers.

“The integration of Éclair on the HTC Hero took longer to develop than anticipated and we apologise for this delay. We are committed to meeting our customers’ demand for this update.”

Okay, so nothing insightful there and questions still remain what difficulties it has faced, especially given that Éclair seems to be running fine on the HTC Desire and Legend. I suppose an apology is better than nothing though…

At least it’s a step in the right direction!

They want hero customers to buy news htc phones like legend , incredible. This is the reason

The screenshot in this news post sums it up quite nicely of what I feel about this whole thing!

I think an apology is good. I really had a go at HTC about the lack of communication. I have several emails from them and from me to them on the subject.

But where was this apology issued? I had a quick look and could not see it. I had an individual apology which I did not think was good enough. I was banging onto them about making a public statement. If this is a public apology then good on them for listening etc, if this is an individual apology to an email someone sent in (like me) this shows they are not listening.

It would be good to see this publically on their site. Will dig deeper on this.

thanks

Paul

Well. Too little, too late. Never goping for HTC again! Bet 2.2 will be released before 2.1 for Hero, so Hero is never up-to-date. FAIL!

Why is it taking so long to develop. This weekend I flashed my hero using the ROM from http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2275 and the instructions on http://www.smartphonegurus.com/forums/index.php?/topic/9448-behero-htc-hero-rom-with-sense-21-fully-functional/. Worked perfectly. I now have Android 2.1 running on my HTC Hero from a leaked HTC Legend build. If this works so smoothly and one bloke can do it, what are HTC doing?

At least they finally said something.

9 htcheroowner April 26, 2010 at 2:20 PM

That’s nice……..but where exactly was this public statement made, other than on the Techradar website?

Agree… until I see an apology on their site for all potential customers to see along with the real reason for the delay I’m not listening. The same as HTC not listening to any of us…

Its pretty much garunteed that 2.2 will be out before 2.1 for the hero…

As I said previously; First and last HTC phone.

@Paul & htcheroowner – Not sure where this statement was made, maybe a press email from HTC PR?

Sold my Hero yesterday and have ordered an iPhone instead so too late…

They said too much b……t about “an update” …

16 Rob April 26, 2010 at 8:01 PM

“integration of Éclair on the HTC Hero TOOK longer to develop than anticipated” the tense suggests that it has already been completed!

As of today I’ve placed my order for the Nexus One flying in to Essex UK from the USA. I remember the original tweet from HTC about this update which was in December! lol The Hero must be one incredibly complicated phone compared to HTC desire, legend etc. ;) But seriously, those of you who have rooted, good for u! unfortunately its not an option for me, due to some odd issues that I dont have the patience to resolve. Will be up on ebay once I get my shipping confirmation from google.

HTC is just full of BS. Am reading 2.2 is coming out soon and we are still stuck on 1.5. There’s no excuse really for this delay. Whenever I wrote to them, they said they are adjusting SenseUI. That’s a lie! SenseUI is Java application and it has nothing to do with hardware. And don’t tell me they are heaving problems making 2.1 ROM to work with Hero hardware. There are people online who singlehandedly made 2.1 work on Hero and here we have a whole team of HTC programmers struggling for over 5 months to make it work… C’mon, this is stupid!

19 matthew April 26, 2010 at 9:18 PM

I love htc phones but the company sucks this update has been pushed back enough times and it has now become ridiculous we dont need an apology we need the update. They can bring out the nexus one for many different carriers and give it 30 different names but they cant update 1 phone.

20 Gagz April 27, 2010 at 7:57 AM

Ah! They launched Hero and updates are taking forever. Do they (HTC) have any idea that how many people will pick HTC legend or future phones seeing this upgrade record.
An piece of advise, let your sense also be an open source, and let developers customize by their own. You guys just make hardware and request Google to release upgrades directly.

21 sepp April 27, 2010 at 7:08 PM

This is really making me angry! The hero is not as expensive than an i phone or other stuff, but its still a big amount which should include a little bit of service :(
It cant ve that much work.. and dont forget they are getting Android for free!

22 android April 27, 2010 at 9:15 PM

hey guys, good news is nexus two is coming from motorola. :) I hate HTC.

23 Pete April 28, 2010 at 5:56 PM

@Android –
That sounds good, I will definitely be giving that a look once my renewal is due.

Don’t want to leave Android but can’t wait to jump from HTC if the chance comes.

Well, I’ve received my nexus one – what a phone! I’ve listed my HTC hero on ebay for 99p, and its currently at £10.50. You can track it here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250624547058&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
