After rumours were dashed that the Sprint HTC Hero would be receiving the Android 2.1 update on 7 May, Sprint has given official word on the update. It has released a short statement via the Sprint community site and twitter that basically says the update is “on track” for a Q2 release. This probably points to a June release in line with the supposed European Hero release.
Sprint also gave a hint of some of the troubles in releasing this update and the subsequent delays incurred. “Sprint had hoped to have this resolved by now”, but exactly what they had hoped to be resolved isn’t made clear. The one positive to come out of this is that they are reiterating a Q2 release, I’d be very surprised that we’ll see further delays given that we are already half way through the quarter. Mark June in your diaries and don’t expect it to come out earlier.
