Orange HTC Hero Firmware Update

If you have experienced problems downloading the new firmware update for your Orange HTC Hero please click on the following link
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.a ... ews_id=261 this link works fine and I have successfully downloaded the update without any problems.

There are a couple of things I would recommend before updating your firmware. Log onto the Android Apps store and buy MyBackup it costs $4.99 and worth every penny as the firmware update wipes all previously downloaded Apps & stored Contacts, messages etc when installed. By backing up using MyBackup all I had to do was reinstall MyBackup to the phone from the Android Apps store and simply reinstalled all the items stored on my memory card, I promise you it was simplicity itself. Don't forget two things before you install the new firmware, 1/ Make a note of the paid for registration code on myBackup 2/ Make a note of your account log in name and password for the Android Apps store.

The only other advice I would give is that I experienced problems pairing my blue tooth headset with my HERO after the firmware update, but this was once again easily solved by downloading Bluetooth+ Headphones bug fix from the Android Apps store it's Free and once installed instantly solved the problem.

If you are thinking of buying an HTC HERO in preference to an iphone or have already got the HERO and are not sure if the firmware update is worth all the fuss, let me tell you it makes a marked difference and makes a good phone outstanding. Congratulations HTC with the firmware update you have now cracked it, this phone really is the iphone beater we have been waiting for.

does update resolve SMS thread loading time?

Postby rosstheboss » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:46 pm

Good to know...

what i'm really interested in is whether the firmware makes SMS 'conversations' load quicker? Once they get over 20 or so messages in one senders 'list' it can take about 3 mins to load them all.

Come on, this is the 21st Century. Until they resolve this, iPhone wins i'm afraid.

In anticipation....!
